DC9 03:23
Hidden Timebomb . . . tickin' away Shouting through the hallway . . . pRetending it's ok Your eyes fall . . . pleadingly on mine as he pushed you through the doorway . . . and slammed it fast behind Finally when you were left some space of your own You summoned up the courage for the phone. CH: Come along and get inside .... I'll get you out in a DC9 Driving back...finding my way Through a rainstorm . . . all the branches ripped away Now you're outside . . . calling me without a sound Making your escape . . . before he could put you down. Understanding more or less nothing anymore... washed along the wreckage of the shore CH Rotate . . . tilted upward taking flight the scenery is shrinkin' . . . as we rise into the night Come along and get inside . . .

Do You Love Me (Like You used to Do)? I search the luggage driftin' by Hoping you might still arrive 30,000 feet ago, I wondered if you'd really show I scan the faces coming by A congress of expecting eyes Searching all the waiting smiles But none are you to my surprize CH: Do you love me like you used to do? Do you crave the love I gave to you? Do you love me like you used to do? The love you gave was the best I knew. I tried to give the same to you. Do you love me like you used to do? Hope is now diminishing the meeting hall is emptying I guess I'll hail a cab from here and try to shrug it off. I see the headlights crawlin' by, allowing them to steal my eyes, devoured by the seat I'm in with cold leather touch . . . CH Will you visit when I'm home Or make me feel some less alone and will you have a smile for me saved up for me specially?

If I hide from you (you'll find me) My break lights cast a red glow on your face right behind my car You see through my pretending that I don't know who you are I wake up in a new place unfamiliar to my eyes A strange bed and an old place in a better-friend disguise. CH: If I hide from you, you'll find me. If I seek you, you will run. If I run, you will rewind me back to where I've begun. If I stay, will you betray me? Do I risk too much to be here where you can find me, instead of on the run? I enter the hallway, the floorboards creakin' away I fall out of the doorway into the scolding glare of day I needed some distance . . . as much as I could put between... The road was my priestess . . . my communion, gasoline. CH Maybe this time will be different and I will escape from the epicentre of this melodrama quake A pink line horizon now dimly tints the sky I'm cradled in a sothing motor-piston lullabye I'm nodding, I'm drifting, new headlights flash ahead... I startle and swerve out, recalling what you said... "If I hide from you, you'll find me. If I seek you, you will run. If I run, you will rewind me back to where I've begun. If I stay, will you betray me? Do I risk too much to be here where you can find me, instead of on the run?"

Late Night Showers I hear your car ... pull in the drive as I lie ... awake in bed thoughts of where you were tonight fill my busy sleepless head I hear your footsteps through the house, but you don't come close to me then I hear the water flow, and my heart sinks rapidly. Your late night showers break my heart. Who's perfume would you hide? Just like you hope the soap imparts salvation deep inside. I lay asleep, or so I seemed Pretending not to wake when finally to bed you came without a single sound or shake Still as stone I try to dream of distant happy times when we spooned so happily, unshowered and sublime Your late night showers break my heart whose perfume lingers on? WHo kept you out so after dark, inspiring this song? Your late night shower trigger thoughts that overflow my brain. JUst like the water, now my heart is circling the drain. I was afraid to learn you had a deep concern Mist is wafting out, erasing any doubt, why you had to be so clean...

Lonely Driver Oncoming lights...popping out of the darkness Blinding glare...between rapid wipes you're here when I'm alone and your love's not far behind Dashboard glow bathes my surroundings in a soft-blue-green comforting light. ANd here when I'm alone I talk to you all through the night. It's a star-lit sky all draped in blackness Tires slip...we tumble wide Overturned...over the railing Down the bank...branches fly and when I wake alone, I see you laying right beside A sudden gust now speeding past me a jolt, recoil...then steady drive only daylight, only in sunshine Never raining, never night. And now I drive alone, scars of you left far behind... grateful that I'm still alive

Love Catastrophe Under an afternoon sun, saw the moon floating high (in a deep blue sky) I know the distance between us has steadily grown over time (many many miles) Between the girl I knew and all she could do unkind (to overtake my mind) I feel like I'm runnin' imperceptibly out of time It's a love catastrophe that's runnin' after me It's a love catastrophe comin' after me. On the 102, pre-rendezvous, breakin' down (with a rattlin' sound) I crawled underneath, saw a chewed-up fan belt on the ground (on the ground) I stuck out a thumb, but no-one would come, not in time (couldn't make it in time) And you didn't wait and you left me lost far behind (near the crime) It's a love catastrophe that doesn't have to be, that's running after me. It's a love catastrophe comin' after me I woke in sweat, drenched in regret, wide awake (lookin' for escape) that moment I knew there was nothing I could do anyway (that's all I can say) And on the night I'd flee without a word between us exchanged....not a word to say. And you never knew that I was just a few miles away.

Mean Demeanor On my way to the bar, she was two steps ahead heels clickin' hard on the stones When I stumbled inside and my face turned red when I saw that she wasn't alone And nonetheless how had she guessed I'd been sizing her up from behind She paused on the stairs and shot me a glare that couldn't be mistaken for kind Have you seen her mean demeanor? It's chilling to the core. Have you seen her mean demeanor? It's meaner than before. On my way to the farm she was 2 lengths ahead Wheels kickin' up dust in my view On a gravely road that her family had owned since 1972. When the morning had come, after all we had done I made a gettaway as soon as I could. Years after that, across you I sat, But the news that you brought wasn't good. You left a note inside my coat with a picture framed in blue Never saw him before 'til I knocked on your door and he opened it for you. I never knew... Have you seen her mean demeanor? It's chilling to the core. Have you seen her mean demeanor? It's meaner than before.

No Ordinary Bemoaner When I bemoan I bemoan so alone in my tone it is known to be shown in the calamity zone I'm no ordinary bemoaner. I do it when I'm so alone. From now to ever-after you'll hear my loud bemoan It's a crucible comin' apart. A hard crack on the pine. A tangled mass of rope, so tedious to unwind I'm no ordinary bemoaner. I do it when I must postpone the zones I'm crossing over when I'm flying all alone. No automated bemoanin'. It's right down to the bone. I give it all until I fall upon my knees when I bemoan. When I bemoan, I bemoan so alone on my throne that alone I postpone speaking into the phone. When I bemoan, I bemoan to postpone the unknown or the prospect of wakin' up outside of my home. I am known to sing alone in the maritimer zone. Like whipping sheets of rain polishing the cobblestones. I'm no ordinary bemoaner, everytime I'm so alone. From here to all around and everywhere I will bemoan. I got away. I got away (oh my oh my). Finally I'm on my own. Escaping to another home. Bathing in the dim-blue glue of your light. I got away. I got away (oh my oh my).

Suspecting Eyes I poke a mint through your smile Far from suspecting eyes But yours are gently glowing with reflected candlelight We shouldn't linger very long Or the gossip won't be kind That's bound to drip from the flippant mouths Between their sips of wine CH: And we gotta find a place to hide From everyone's suspecting eyes Got a place where we can find where restless hearts can escape suspecting eyes Trees race below the moon My forehead cold on the pane Not a word is said between us In the miles of driving rain CH Suddenly they see us frozen where we stand I dash around the corner dragging you by the hand I hope we're not discovered by my wife and your man And then I let myself realize they had known the whole time It took too many hundred tears Before my eyes could close And the dark circles we both wear We hope nobody will know

The Mess 04:38
The Mess I fell asleep on a speeding train. I was oblivious to the sights of the steeply mountainous terrain and the staccatto tunnel lights It didn't even matter if my eyes were closed. I had a picture perfect view of memories in a mental frame made recently with you. I love the mess we're in. I drink it up like wine. I think the mess we're in is fine. I love the mess we're in. Together we are on the scene. This mess is the best we've ever been In a dream we were toboganning down the Appalation Way You were sheltering behind me from the bifurcated spray And then suddenly my little fantasy begins to rapidly depixelate revealing ceiling lights frustratingly bright and positioned to operate. I love the mess we're in. I drink it up like wine. I think the mess we're in is fine. I love the mess we're in better than all the rest Messin' with this mess brings out our best I wake up in recovery when I found out we derailed. A never waking outcome I had narrowly curtailed. Thankfully I wake to see your reassuring smile. I think I might just rest here for awhile. I love the mess we're in. I drink it up like wine. I think the mess we're in is fine. I love the mess we're in better than all the rest Messin' with this mess brings out our best
