Sometimes you find someone you can't live with and can't live without. This character tries to escape such a partner, but either because of his lack of resolve, or her guided-missle-like persistence, is never able to break free.

My break lights cast a red glow on your face right behind my car
You see through my pretending that I don't know who you are
I wake up in a new place unfamiliar to my eyes
A strange bed and an old place in a better-friend disguise.

I enter the hallway, the floorboards creakin' away

The road was my priestess . . . my communion, gasoline.
