Written by Fielding/Harley, with Fielding contributing the "blue eyes" section, and Harley writing the "drink your water" phrases. Lots of fun to write record and Play! And it was a live favorite. Not recorded to a click and speeds up a bit as the track takes off, which was intentional. On the album, this track follows seemlessly on the heels of "The Cows are Home" which was performed to a click. While performing the bed track to this song, it actually was song 2 of a 3 song trilogy that was played one right after the other on the bedtrack without hitting stop/record. So on the tape, it was one huge 3 song take. And as we transitioned from "the Cows are Home" to Blue Eyes, we turned off the Click just before beginning Blue Eyes, to allow ourselves the freedom to finally adjust our tempo to accent the changes in dynamics. The click track remains off until the end, and so this song and the song immediately after it (Hag) were played with no click or tempo reference. This was in part necessary because transition between Blue Eyes and Hag involved a dramatic change in tempo and feel. Hear it to see what I mean {get the sense wordplay there? : ) ...you're too kind....I love ya!}
lyrics
I'll see blue, blue eyes tomorrow, and your funky little smile today
I'll see blue, blue eyes tomorrow, and your funky little smile today
I went to your Island to drink your water
I went to your Island to drink your water
I went to your Island to drink your water
I fed off your bones along your highway
I gave you your true love
nailed to your highway
I'll see blue, blue eyes tomorrow, and your funky little smile today
I'll see blue, blue eyes tomorrow, and your funky little smile today
I'll see blue, blue eyes tomorrow, and your funky little smile today
