about

First track ever written and produced by Steve Harley/James Bond/John Peer in what would become a collection of electronica-based tracks under the project title "Streel". This is unquestionably a Peer-inspired track, after he had tweaked a certain arpegiator with a certain ultra-cool grunge, and that provided fertile ground for the overlaying accompanyment that spawned the track with gave the working title "artichoke march" (completely arbitrarily), and for some unknown and crazy reason, the name stuck. At the time, we were having writing sessions that would bring-forth 8-14 unfinished riffs or song embryos. Of any given night, we'd often get 1-3 good-great riffs. But all 15 would still have to be given a temporary name, just to have something written next to the timecode in our project journal. So you'd often have to just spew out nonsensical jibberish, or whatever you could think of fast, because you needed 15 labels, as fast as you could write them, and then on the next song idea...."good, not good, star, no star, give it at name....porcupine from mars....ok, great...it's just a working title, doesn't matter, just need to call it something for communication's sake, we'll rename it later....and next, ok...ah, bluebird petunia smash.....ok next.....farmboy dates alien a little too much....next, potato head canyon laser surprize. So it was in this frenzied environment of brainstorm-naming ....( brain-aming? ....maybe not ) that "artichoke march" was born out of the conscious ethersphere. We never renamed it. Oh, wait a minute. Whoops. I forgot. Yes, we did rename it. It's called...uh...(flip, flip...) ...uh....hmmm. I forget. Oh YEAH!! It's called "Let it Go!" YES!!!! YES!!!! Let it GO! of course we still really do call it artichoke march, and we really did rename it too. the brilliant bracket culture....yes we can have our cake and eat it too, or name our song 2 different ways, and a bracket explains all that perfectly. So the OFFICIAL name of this track.....welll actually it's the name in the title here. The original title remained primary, and the rename secondary (and thus the portion in brackets), I guess mostly out of historical context, and it was getting around slightly, and the listeners dug the name. Go figure. Cool! Thanks!
